Bowties, Books, and Beer

Caleb Conradi

It is now nearing the end of the year and I realize I have been neglecting the blog.  Starting this business has been an eye opener with no day being the same.  From designing new bowties cleaning the website to hearing how Kerri used one of our ties to give as a gift to her favorite actor the year has been a blur but these are the stories that make excited each morning.  To give back I want to make a service that I can give back to all of you.  Going forward the blog will talk of bowties and the issues and rewards of starting a company, book reviews ranging from sci-fi fantasy to self-improvement (I'm a huge nerd), and finally but not least craft beer.

Leading off I want to talk about a book I was assigned in from the MBA program at Lehigh University it is Zero to One by Peter Thiel and Blake Masters.  This was an interesting book on what it takes to form a successful venture capital company.  I enjoyed the book because in the startup world you are constantly hearing the term VC (venture capital) thrown around and how venture capital is the key to success.  While this is true for some companies Peter Thiel goes to talk about how the key is not to spread your eggs across the board as you are often taught in school but to to find the ones that have the correct chemistry and focus to be the next billion dollar company.  He is blunt to the point and unapologetic for his opinions.  This was a breath of fresh air in a very politically correct society where people will tiptoe around the real issues.  In the book he lays out the ground work for starting your own company and the most important steps happen at the founding that will determine if your company will succeed or fail.  In going through the steps he focuses on how you can best succeed and this will require you to love your work.  He goes on to show how sometimes best option is to finding the company you want to work for and show how you have honed your skills to be a value to the company which goes away from the rhetoric that is constantly spouted that you need to work for yourself.

If you would like to hear the thoughts of one of the top entrepreneurs in Silicone Valley I would recommend this book.  I found many of my concepts challenged through the reading and it made me look at how I want to grow as person and a company.  I attached a link to where you can get the Zero to One from Amazon (he talks about Amazon’s road to success in the book) and I would love to hear your thoughts on the book and I will leave you with the question Peter Thiel starts with.  Tell me something that’s true, that almost nobody agrees with you on.

Until next time… Look Sharp. Fee Refined!

TALES OF THE COCKTAIL AND ADVERTISING

Caleb Conradi

We are recently returning from this years Tales of the Cocktail in New Orleans to show our ties to those in the restaurant industry and while down there we met Zane Lamprey.  In meeting him he is a great example of what it takes to succeed and how to not let setbacks hold you down.  He has worked hard to build his brand expand even when facing setbacks with changing networks.  You can find out his latest progress and new projects including the launch of Chug through this link Zane Lamprey.  We wish him the best of luck in are thankful for his inspiration.

This is what it takes to succeed the willingness to persevere when others would quite to work harder and longer.  You need to want success more.  Find what you love and do that.  It will not be easy and it will take sacrifice but in the end you will you be proud of what you created.

Thanks to all of those we met in New Orleans and Tales patrons.  You were the first to see our brand new tie design El Commodore and newly improve bottle opener design Cheers.

Until next time stay refined. RBCo.
